As part of the MYR Group of companies, Great Southwestern possesses the technical, financial and managerial resources to install multiple projects of virtually any size and type.
With a history of extensive construction experience, Great Southwestern has performed almost every type of project.
GENERAL
Since 1977, Great Southwestern has completed numerous projects in over 20 states for dozens of clients including private developers, utlilities, the U.S. Governement, REAs, Co-ops, and other contractors.
Our expert management staff averages more than 20 years of experience per person. Our cohesive crews work together wherever they may travel to allow them to work together as a highly functional team on every project.
TRANSMISSION
Great Southwestern Construction has completed more than 60 transmission projects ranging from 69kV through 500kV, and more than 1,000 miles of optical ground wire (OPTGW) on overhead transmission lines.
We have completed projects in some of the most challenging conditions:
- From farmland to mountains
- In solid rock or crossing bays
- On flat, sandy soil or on steep rocky inclines
- Using helicopters or barges
- With 60' wood poles up to 280' steel structures
We have the experience!
We construct steel lattice towers and tubular steel poles using both direct embedment and steel reinforced concrete caissons in a wide variety of soil conditions.
SUBSTATION
With over 150 substations completed, Great Southwestern Construction has continued a tradition of excellence in all phases of substation construction projects.
We perform substation and switchyard construction from the ground up, including site work, foundation construction, grounding systems, steel erection, bus work installation and welding, power and control cable installation, testing and finish rock.
We also have performed several design/build substations though 230kV.
DISTRIBUTION
Great Southwestern Construction has performed all types of overhead and underground distribution work from new development in rural areas to inner-city repair and re-build projects.
WIND FARMS
We have successfully installed over 100 miles of wind farm transmission lines as well as underground collection systems, step up substations from 34.5kV to 345kV and interconnection stations up to 345kV. Rooted in teamwork, we provide an EPC solution that focuses on innovative engineering, timely procurement and quality construction that will provide an economically feasible project with on time delivery.
