Description: Hurricane Harvey made landfall on Aug 25th near Rockport, Texas as a Category 4 Hurricane with winds of 130 mph. The resulting tropical storm meandered in the region for several days, dropping a record 40-52 inches of rainfall in southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana. Line personnel from Great Southwestern Construction (GSWC) were quickly mobilized to Rockport to respond to this major natural disaster. GSWC line workers demolished 24 miles of 345kV line that was completely destroyed by the storm. Additional work included main trunk line installation, pole replacement, splicing services, installation of transformers and conductor repair. Crews worked seven days a week for 16 hours a day and were focused on getting the public’s power restored as quickly and safely as possible.
